Thoughts on joining the Yosebito Project
I was fortunate enough to be asked to design the words “Oishii Omizu Ari” (Delicious Water is Available Here).
I hope this design at the supply spot will catch many people’s eyes and that the visitors will come to know Hakone’s charms through the “Delicious Water” and “People” of the Old Tokaido Way.
Tomoe resides in Hakone Yumoto and is the Waka-Okami (Young manager) of “Yamamotokan,” a long-established ryokan founded in the Edo period.
She has practised Japanese calligraphy since she was five years old and is commissioned to create sign designs, POP designs, and naming ceremony plaques, to name a few.
In the spring of 2023, Tomoe will open a calligraphy class in the ryokan.
Through her calligraphy and brush writing classes, Tomoe hopes that more people will feel familiar with the world of calligraphy.
